Place-Based & Collaborative Projects > Flood/Margin, Part/Whole

Four dvd projections, steel map paintings, site earth, sandbags, cinderblocks, 2004-05. Exhibition focused on northward sprawl construction along White River in metro Indianapolis, leading to flooding problems downriver. Cinderblocks were placed at new developments, numbered, then used in north wall; steel map paintings are of fastest-growing counties in US. Central space is the “micro” view, exterior wall space is the “macro.” Videos are of farmland/forest, historic maps/census growth, sprawl developments, White River. Low-contrast river video was visible only in certain sections of loop (appeared as rippling motion on wall at most times).
